Winter Maintenance - Running gear

Keep your chain and chain rings clean to prolong chain and ring life. Sand and grit sticking to your running gear is a real problem this time of year. Bike shops sell many cleaners specifically suited to this purpose, but virtually any household degreaser such as 409 will work. Don't forget to lightly lube your chain after you completely dry it. Wipe off any excess lube. I only add lube when my chain is making noise, otherwise an over-lubed chain will attract excess grit. Ride on!
